“My work is loving the world” - Mary Oliver
I’m a romantic. If you had to sum me up in one word I’d tell you that I refuse to be categorized (lol), but that might get close. My son is my favorite person in the universe and if you know him I’m sure you understand why. We have a dog named Merton, a cat named Dionysus, a giant garden, and a whole flock of backyard chickens. I’m in love with beauty, and messiness, and the kind of friends who sit down and fold laundry with you. I love nature with everything in me and I can’t stop picking up new hobbies no matter how hard I try.
Deep bow to everyone who can adhere to the minimalist aesthetic - I’m not wired that way! A friend told me that my house looks like a seashore that tossed up treasures on its bank for the past hundred years, and honestly, that’s a huge compliment. My son and I have nature collections - snake skin, feathers, cicada wings, and so many rocks. Marie Kondo would be mortified at the number of books on my shelves (and floors), and I’ve taken to collecting houseplants that have amassed to near jungle-like status.
Beauty is the driving force of my life, and photography has enabled me to focus my eyes and my lens on some truly beautiful beings over the past 18 years. I’ve worked with some major brands (Anheuser-Busch, The American Heart Association, Big Heart Tea), been published a few places (The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, The New Yorker), won some awards (RFT Peoples’ Choice award for Best Photographer, The Knot Best of Weddings, Grand Center Visionary Award, RFT Mastermind Award) and worked around the world (I miss you Florence, Italy, Oslo, Norway and Harbor Island, Bahamas!). I’ve also watched families grow, supported artists and entrepreneurs in sharing what they love, and photographed many, many weddings - I still cry at all of them.
I addition to my work as a photographer, I am also a part of the artistic collaborative Clay Creatures, the co-founder of The Luminary, a cutting edge arts non-profit, and co-founder of Counterpublic, a public art triennial. My life is truly full of never-ending (and well-documented) adventure.
